Route 66, Day 7

Friday, Winslow to Chandler, AZ (October 7th, 2016)

The home stretch!
Well Lola and I had a discussion this morning and decided to head to Phoenix today instead of tomorrow.  We are both tired of being on the road.  So we will leave Winslow this morning and go down thru Strawberry, Pine and Payson and should be in Chandler by 2 or 3 this afternoon!  Whew!  What a long week!

This is just heading south from Winslow, AZ,  Just cows and not much else. (how do they survive with no water or shelter??)

Starting to see some bushes now...

Now seeing more bushes and small trees...

Trees are getting bigger...

and bigger...(and some fall colors too!)

 a forest!...

watch for elk crossing!

some rocks were white...

and others were red...

gorgeous view!

more mountains off in the distance...

you can see some red trees in the center of this photo...

The little town of Strawberry.

An original school house in Strawberry.

Heading to Pine, AZ, another small town

Met a shop owner here from Ely, MN

more white rock...

more red rock...

heading into Payson, AZ, a little bigger town in the mountains.

heading down before going back up...

This was an RV pulling a truck camper only going about 10 mph.   Maybe they should have unhooked them and drove them separately.

Getting closer!  Saguaros!

Near the Salt River.  Sign cautioning about the wild Salt River horses...

Finally arrived at my new home!  The view from the back yard...

There are ducks and fish in this pond

One of the 4 cats

Chanel, the ferret

The three dogs...all very nice and well behaved

Had an awesome drive thru the mountains today! Wow! So gorgeous with tall pine tree forests and the oak trees are turning color already too. Stopped in the little town of Pine and stopped at a cute little cabin/store there. The owner is from Ely, MN!
Loved the town of Payson!

Lots more mountains to climb after that, before arriving in Phoenix. Took about an hour to unload my Jeep and trailer. Was exhausted, but Veronica, the home owner, invited me out for something to eat at a Mexican restaurant nearby.   They have 4 cats, 3 very well behaved dogs, a beautiful little parrot and the sweetest little ferret!
So that is my journey south and west!  It was fun and adventurous!   Weather was perfect and no issues with driving, or the car or trailer!
